Moving home can be a stressful event. Here are six tips to help make it as hassle-free as possible.
And we’re not just talking a little bit organised. You need to be Monica from friends on her wedding day organised. So, avoid last minute arrangements, and plan everything in advance. Create a to-do list and keep all your important information together in a folder. Write down what you need to do and when, and try not to leave everything until the fortnight before the big move.
Start your packing early
We know it’s an enormous task. But don’t leave it until the last minute. Break it down into smaller, achievable tasks. Take it room by room – and pack items that you don’t use very often. As it gets closer to moving day, you can pack each room up a little bit more, so there’s not so much to do the evening before you move.
Research your removal company
The removal company you choose will probably depend on your budget – that’s if you decide to use one at all. If you do decide to use a removal company, we would recommend you get at least three quotes to make sure you’re getting the best deal possible.
Label absolutely everything
Okay, we know that it’s an obvious thing to do, but it’s easy to forget. So make sure you label everything and, if you can, put labels on more than one side. That way you don’t have to move, lift and turn heavy boxes to find out what’s inside.
Pack an essentials box
These are the things you’ll be glad to have close by after a stressful moving day. Put the remote controls, tea, coffee, bed sheets and phone chargers into one box, and make sure you know where it is at all times. Trust us, this will save you a lot of time and stress on moving day.
Sort out your bed first
You’ll appreciate it at the end of the day when you don’t have to do that ‘one more thing’ before you can sleep.
