“The Shared Ownership scheme helped us buy a new family home – and we couldn’t be happier”

Buying a family home – it’s something many of us dream about. But just how achievable is that? Well, with the Shared Ownership scheme it’s a lot easier than you think, as James and Natalie found out.

With family on their mind, James and Natalie were looking to move on from their current Shared Ownership apartment to something a little bigger. Having researched their options, they soon discovered that Radian Homes had a selection of three bedroom homes available at the popular Fen Meadow development in Nursling. What’s more, by using the Shared Ownership scheme again, they could buy a home bigger than they could afford on the open market.

“We loved the fact that the scheme as available on new build homes, and we could increase our share over time. It meant we could buy the home we want now – and own 100% of it later down the line.” As a reminder, Shared Ownership enables you to purchase a percentage of your home, and pay a low-cost rent on the remaining percentage.

From reserving their home, right through to moving in day, James and Natalie felt at ease with the process. “We were well looked after by the team, and Radian were able to reassure us when the process was becoming stressful.” They also added “we couldn’t have been happier when we got our keys as it was the first step in our new family home and life together.”

What do James and Natalie think is the best thing about their new home? “It’s in an amazingly quiet location, the neighbours are friendly and there’s room for our family to grow. The size and layout is perfect for us, and we’re close to work. Plus we get lots of visitors now we have a garden and room to entertain.”

What’s great about Shared Ownership is that you only purchase what you can afford. James and Natalie were able to purchase a 45% share for just £135,000. This mean they only needed a £8,450 deposit, with the full market value of their home currently standing at £300,000.

What final words do James and Natalie have for us? “Well, this is quite simply best thing we have ever done together, and the future for us is looking very exciting now!”
